Always Something to Learn and New People to Meet: Women in Mining

By Andrea Cade

Started in 2002, the Vancouver Branch of Women in Mining has been providing networking opportunities and education talks for nearly ten years.  I recently attended my first Women in Mining brown bag lunch.  The presentation was informative and there were plenty of opportunities to network.  I was looking for a job at the time and met other women that knew of opportunities in the industry.  I recently started working in an exploration geology position, thanks in part to the women I met at my very first lunch.

Talks at the lunches have included information on associations and companies, strategies on negotiation and tips on presenting yourself in the strongest way.  Though I've only made it to one lunch so far I look forward to more in the future – there will always be something to learn and new people to meet and Women in Mining provides a great venue for personal development.
