Icebreaker Night breaks open!

By Denis Delisle

Gung Hay Fat Choy! How lucky for the AME BC 2012 Roundup to be opening on the same day that Chinese New Year starts, the Year of the Dragon!

The Icebreaker is a time for prospectors, geologists, geophysicists, geochemists, service industry people and so many others to say get reacquainted or event make some new contacts. The Ice Breaker is the first social event the night before the official open of the AME Roundup, in the foyer of theStanleyParkballroom. It offers complementary draft beer and the rest is supplied by the folks in the mining industry. Of course there are the geology industry is well represented but there are environmentalists, people from the forestry industry, engineers and investors. And of course there are students (about 50% of the attendees - can you say free beer!),

One attendee, Bruce Johnson is a forester from around theWilliamsLakearea. When the forestry industry slowed down he caught the prospecting bug. After prospecting for a couple years he discovered some interesting copper showings and has them optioned off. He is here to meet old friends, to pick up more information on prospecting and meeting investors about promoting his property.

Jack Krusche who is an environmental engineer, was raised by a geologist and now feels searching for minerals is in his blood. Jack notes that the old way of working with environmental issues was by dealing with after the problem has been created. Now, concerns are being solved by first identifying and then working with environmental groups in regards to issues and also building mutual trust.
