Sugar and Spice and Everything Nissonite
The mineral exploration and mining industry has traditionally been male dominated. More and more women are entering into careers in this field and organizations like Women in Mining are here to help.
Women in Mining offers women support and help on their path to success. The organization has groups all over Canada that meet monthly to hang out, relax and discuss issues facing women in the industry. The organization is focused on mentoring; career prep and support once hired. They are also involved with the charity, the Townships Project, which provides micro-loans to women in South Africa to set up small businesses and escape poverty.
The Yukon Mine Training Association is also recruiting women. They offer job placement based on education and interests. Trying to juggle a meaningful career with family and community can be a struggle for a lot of women, and YMTA is committed to helping strike that balance.
Women in Mining will be holding a panel discussion and reception, at the CIM conference in Vancouver, May 11 from 3-5 p.m.
